NURTURE & CARE
Stephen Ministry
Stephen Ministry is the one-to-one lay caring ministry that takes place in congregations that use the Stephen Series system. Stephen Ministry congregations equip and empower lay caregivers – called Stephen Ministers – to provide high-quality, confidential, Christ-centered care to people who are hurting. Stephen Ministry training is held periodically to train new Stephen Ministers for the congregation. For more information, please contact Michelle Parker-Clark at (618) 922-3587 or mpclark@siu.edu.
Care Notes
Care Notes are resource pamphlets which offer helpful information and spiritual encouragement regarding many of life’s crises. They are availing in the Welcome Center or the Narthex, located at the 15th and Pine Street entrance.
Homebound Communion
Members of the congregation deliver communion to individuals confined to their homes or care centers. Volunteers perform this important ministry. Please contact Michelle Parker-Clark at (618) 922-3587 for more information.
Homebound Visits
Volunteers of the church visit one-on-one with ill or homebound individuals to establish a relationship with them and visit at least once a month. Please contact Michelle Parker-Clark at (618) 922-3587 for more information.
Bereavement Ministry
Hospitality
Volunteers provide hospitality when there is a funeral service held at MUMC. They set up a private space where the family and friends may go for refreshments and a quiet place to rest. There are also greeters at each door and others to help seat those attending the service. Please contact Rindy Eisenhauer at (618) 967-1380 for more information.
Funeral Dinners
This group of dedicated people extends comfort and hospitality to the bereaved by preparing and serving funeral dinners for those who request it. Meals are served in the Fellowship Hall. Other members of the congregation help by preparing and bringing food to be served at the funeral dinners. To help, join a food prep team. Please contact Joan Bastien at (618) 684-6005 for more information.
